An in-water pre-purchase survey checks the structural condition of the vessel and paint coating above the waterline. The inspection also checks the engine, onboard systems and interior fit-out and normally takes a half day.
An in-water survey is normally carried out if the vessel has had a recent hull survey, the vessel is nearly new, or it is not possible to have the vessel lifted out of the water, and the cost can be normally offset against any faults found as the price to have them rectified can normally be negotiated in with the purchase price.
